Job Title: Lab Technician

 



Description:
 

The lab technician will be responsible for the safe and accurate testing of SCM samples for current and future products.

 

Job Responsibilities: 

  • Create/maintain monthly competitive testing program for cement and concrete 

  • Create/maintain monthly competitive testing program for SCM 

  • Perform concrete trial batches to certify mix designs 

  • Mix design optimization for precast and internal ready-mix operations 

  • Auxiliary concrete testing for internal ready-mix operations 

  • Perform SCM Certification testing 

  • Perform ASR Testing 

  • Validate new sources of SCM, Aggregate 

  • Perform data filing and quality assurance sample storage. 

  • Responsible for inputting and tracking data into the lab database. 

  • Ensure a safe and healthy work environment at all times. 

  • Other Duties as assigned. 

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • Knowledge of SCM products and industry quality standards.  

  • Intermediate computer skills. 

  • Willingness to develop knowledge and research pozzolan uses. 

  • Two years of concrete testing preferred. 

  • Proficiency in Microsoft and Excel preferred 

  • Develop knowledge of lab equipment and test methods 

  • ACI Concrete Field-Testing Technician Certification preferred. 

 

Education and Certificates: 

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED). 

 

Physical Requirements: 

  • Sitting: 20% of the time. 

  • Standing: 80% of the time. 

  • Weight lifted: must frequently be able to safely lift and carry 70 to 100 pounds. For safe lifting, co-workers can assist with heavy objects. May occasionally lift items above their head. 

  • Physical movement: may frequently be required to walk over uneven ground, balance, stoop/crouch, kneel, grab and hold objects. Several repetitive actions throughout the day such as carrying and lifting full buckets, splitting samples, and other tasks as needed. 

  • Speaking/listening: needs to communicate clearly with supervisors and co-workers – particularly regarding understanding and following instructions and safety requirements with precisions.
